The Island Barrel Conversion is a full structural conversion that reworks the slide and installs a purpose-built island barrel assembly for race-ready performance, improved ejection, and a refined sighting platform. This is extensive machining and precision fitting — not a simple swap.

Important: This service requires the complete build and includes Overhaul & Fit (disassembly/reassembly, function check, and insured return shipping).

What’s Included

  • Welding closed original sight dovetail on the slide

  • Flattop widening to 0.400" where required

  • Machining the slide to accept the island barrel assembly

  • Custom-fit barrel to frame and slide for correct lockup

  • Matched barrel (included)

  • Barrel link & pin (included)

  • Flush-cut reverse crown muzzle

  • Sight dovetail milled in the barrel with solid front sight installed

  • Barrel porting (optional — specify if you DO NOT want porting)

  • Recoil spring selection & fitment for optimal function

  • Cerakote on the complete slide (single color) included

  • Overhaul & Fit included (safe disassembly/reassembly, function test, and insured return)

Eligible Platforms

  • Barrel lengths: 3.9", 4", 4.1", 4.25", 4.4" (all variations)

  • Full-dustcover and full-size platforms such as STI full size 5", Rock Island, Prodigy Gen 1 5", and similar 1911/2011 slides in 9mm / .38 Super / .40 S&W / .45 ACP / 10mm

  • If you’re unsure about compatibility, contact us first and include clear photos

Not Eligible

  • Slides with existing internal lightening cuts

  • Comp-block guns or sight-block style slides

  • Any non-1911/2011 platforms

Turnaround & Lead Time

  • Minimum 12 weeks from date received — this is a high-complexity, custom conversion; lead times may vary with demand.

Important Notes

  • This is a permanent, structural modification and is not reversible.

  • If other parts are finished in PVD/DLC/TiN and you want them retained or re-finished, add the appropriate surface treatment at checkout.

  • All machined and coated areas are subject to normal wear over time, especially in high-contact zones.

  • We perform final function testing and inspection before return.

Shipping & Returns

If you order a product from DSC, we will stand by our product and correct/fix an issue if it may arise. Please note, no returns are accepted on custom barrel services/products or used drop-in barrels. Approved returns on new, unused, non-defective products may be subject to a 10% restocking fee.

Return shipping may be required for projects involving complete firearms rather than individual parts to ensure proper insurance coverage during the return shipping process.

DSC Drop In Barrels

DSC barrels are designed for drop-in installation, in conjunction with factory counterparts such as factory slide stop and recoil - we continuously strive to improve the quality of our drop-in barrels as each style and variant is custom-made, hand fitted to shop models, and coated per order. 
Turnaround times are estimated to be approximately 5-7 weeks after the initial purchase, though they are subject to change depending on the situation. *Stainless variants may ship sooner, depending on the order. 
**In the unlikely event that you experience any issues with installing your barrel, we offer free custom fitting.
